Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) ·
My practice is focused on integrative medicine, with a special emphasis on osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) and acupuncture.
OMM is a hands-on treatment employed by Doctors of Osteopathy (D.O.s). It is based on the manual diagnosis of areas of restricted mobility and pain in the body.
Once a structural dysfunction is diagnosed, the osteopathic physician then employs a number of different techniques, including myofascial release, muscle energy, craniosacral therapy and others to remove these dysfunctions. The result is decreased pain, improved mobility, and a feeling of well being.
OMM differs from massage and physical therapy in that it is utilized by a fully trained and licensed physician and is anatomically focused. OMM techniques are in general, gentler than many chiropractic techniques, are performed over fewer visits, and do not involve the use of x-rays in the diagnosis of structural dysfunction.
